Future Of Tablets in 2012

Posted on December 17, 2011 by Mitosh Mora // Tablet PCs

The year 2011 was the year when Android based tablets ramped at the yearly Consumer Electronics show held in Las Vegas. Motorola came with the world’s first Android v3.0 tablet.

The year has been an extremely good tablet markers but tech giants like RIM and Hewlett-Packard found a quick exit to their tablets. And suddenly when everything was going good for most of the companies, Apple released its next version of tablet, the ultra slim iPad 2. And companies like Barnes & Nobel and Amazon showed the way that tablets couldn’t always cost that much high with features everyone would love to have.

So what is the store of tablets for 2012? Of course no can tell that but there are some future predictions that we can expect I the CES 2012.

Much thinner designs:

With Apple iPad 3 or iPad 2S (who know what the name will be) yet to get released there are pretty tough competitions currently controlling the tablet market, these tablets are low in weight and comparatively thin than the current iPad 2. With most of the Android tablets having HDMI output and microSD expandable memory that bulks up the make and not to forget the chunkiness of the LCD panel and built-in battery. Will all these features be incorporated in the future Android tablets plus giving lesser weight and thinner design? Even if it gives that option it still has major competition against the forthcoming iPad 3.

Android 4.0:

Like Android Honeycomb v3.0 was shown at the CES 2011 even Android Ice Cream Sandwich will be demonstrated at the CES 2012. With the newest OS will come questions regarding its capabilities of running into other tablets. However, unlike last year Google will be presenting the ICS at CES with full fledge as the company has already released its codes and manufactures will be able to show its basic functionality very easily.

Microsoft Windows 8 tablets:

At the CES 2011 Microsoft familiarized the Windows 8 and at CES 2012 the chances are very extreme that Microsoft will be giving major updates on the same if not making tablet completely available. Even though no one had their hands on it yet the OS will be running on most of the tablets. As 2012 is nearing very fast we will soon hear about the new OS.

Tablets with higher resolution:

This feature is highly expected in the iPad 3, now that the current version the iPhone and iPod has Retina display, will the iPad 3 even have it? It would definitely be like a cream on pie.

According to the rumor factory the current tablet prime manufactures are making tablets that will have a QXGA resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels with touch panels having a 264ppi pixel density. This will be twice that of the current iPad 2.

Flexible phones:

This is something I’m personally looking forward to. With Samsung and Sony has already shown the OLED displays few years back, Nokia will be the real player to actually demonstrate something like this to us. Maybe 2012 will be the year.

Why Nokia? They have already been showing off their Kinetic a concept phone that allows it users to operate their phone with bends and twists of the phone. God know what sort of technology they will using but one thing is sure that if Nokia presents at least some of the features at the CES 2012 of this conceptual flexible phone, its surely going to create a history.

Different shapes and designs in tablets:

The record breaking success of the Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire showed us the a tablet shouldn’t be necessary to have a big screen. And with Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Player 5, Samsung has already moved to make tablets in different sizes. A day will come when a tablet above 12 inches will be anywhere to be seen.

The latest Android tablet Eee Pad Transformer Prime from Asus showed us a way of what can be done with a tablet. The tablet can be just converted into a netbook with the help of an external keyboard dock that can be detachable. We suppose the future Windows 8 tablets will have the same capability in the near future.

4G

4G

4G is something we expect to see in all upcoming tablets including the iPad 3. If the iPad 3 doesn’t have 4G it will be one biggest draw back of the company in respect to its sales. But considering 4G tablets makers need to take make battery that will be more powerful as 4G takes much of the battery.
