Step 4:  Download the iOS 5.1 (not iOS 5.1.1) IPSW file that corresponds to the specific device you are using.

Step 5: Launch the Redsnow software.

Step 6: On the UI of Redsnow select “Extras” and then choose the option “Select IPSW.”

Step 7: Point to IPSW when prompted from Step 4 and select it.

Step 8: The main home screen of Redsnow will come, where you have to select “Jailbreak”, but you have to make it sure that when you select Jailbreak the “Install Cydia” option is select.

Step 9: When the process is going on the on-screen prompt will put your device on DFU mode. To make your Jailbreak Successful this must be done.

Step 10: After the DFU mode is detected the rest of the process will be automated on-screen before ending up on the device. During this process you can see a white line, which is normal during the process. When your device re-boots it is sure that your Jailbreak process get completed.

On every restart you need to boot your device into tethered boot mode. To do that you just need to launch the Redsnow and select “Extras”->”Just Boot.”
